Inspired To Invest
by Sidney Grant
PERHAPS SECOND ONLY to the news about the death of a family member or a friend is the news I received on October 24, 1990, "You are deported from the United States."
Relating this news to Dr. Glen Reiff, who was my boss and Director of HIM Spanish Ministries, I received a positive, optimistic, yet risky response. The odds were slim, but the objective was in stone – invest in people for a better tomorrow. I am thankful that Dr. Reiff, along with the administration of FEA, invested in me. Not only have I benefited and been granted permanent residency, but as God wanted it to be, I am a citizen of the US.
The story behind a successful mission and ministry is "risky investment." Frankly, we do not know what the results will be. But if our vision, mission, goals, strategy, core values, and objectives originate and are guided by the Holy Spirit, our investment will have successful results according to God's standard of success.
HIM is involved in "risky investment." However, we believe if what we do originates with God, we can be successful. We invite you to join us in continuing the completion of the commission of Christ.
Your partnership will assist us in penetrating the world of open doors, to proclaim the gospel of Jesus, to prepare workers for the ministry of the church, to preserve the fruits of the investments, and to perpetuate that which was begun.
Recently several men in South Africa were ordained and appointed as national leaders. Much investment went into this milestone in the work in Africa. The church is advancing in becoming self-governing and self-propagating. As a result, we hope that one day they will be self-supporting.
Several years ago, a young man, Cruz Perez, from Guatemala went back to his country to minister to his people and to tell them about Jesus Christ. He pioneered a church with little financial support from HIM. As a result, his ministry has blossomed and is multiplying. Cruz is building a new church, teaching and training new leaders, and is now the national leader of several other congregations in western Guatemala that were pioneered by his mentor and predecessor.
It was Hudson Taylor who labored diligently for several years without seeing any results for his investment. But as he sought a deeper relationship with the Lord and the depths of Christ's love, his investment began to take root and the results are still evident today.
HIM is seeing the results of those who have sowed and from those who have gone, prayed, and given. Thanks for being partners with us as we continue to invest.
