AS A MISSIONARY, one has a variety of experiences. A young Haitian fellow came to me when I was a missionary in Haiti, asking if he could attend our school.
At that point, we really did not have room, and we were somewhat low on funds. I did some checking and found that he had already begun his education by obtaining a book or two. He asked for help from anyone he thought could teach him. He was living with a non-family member because his mother’s new husband did not want him. The Lord laid it on my heart to help him however I could. I gave him a room in our house, some pencils, and some paper; but no books. He borrowed books and put himself completely into his studies. When the year ended, he was first in his class! We continued to help him, and he completed high school, Bible College, and two years of Seminary. He is currently a teacher in his village and assists in his church. God has blessed his life with a lovely family.
