A word from Pieter & Hester Marais

We started to do mission work with HIM in October 1994, in Lesotho, an independent country surrounded by South Africa. A year before we became full-time missionaries with HIM, we built two churches in Lesotho. After three years in Lesotho, we moved just over the border to start to work with the people on the farms in South Africa. I am still the Field Director of the work in Africa and there are now seven missionaries in South Africa and Lesotho and we expect more missionaries to come in a few months. We plant churches and train the people during the week. In addition to these Bible studies, we have a weekly Bible study with the white farmers. Hester, my wife, has services in the nearby schools once a week and does children's work every Sunday before the main services. We help to provide infrastructures and build churches, prefabricated churches, construction of benches, etc. We fix our old tents for tent meetings, transport, and spend many hours repairing the mission vehicles. Every year during our winter, we go to some northern countries of Southern Africa like Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia for literature and Bible distribution. We started this work six years ago. We promote the sales and printing of Bibles and Christian literature in seven languages, especially in countries where there is a shortage of Bibles.
